Burning Calories

One of my friend asked me why not write a blog on health and fitness, here is a topic dedicated to her!
Fitness for many is considered being like Matinee Heroes oozing out biceps, 6-8 packs, V-Rod shape etc., but few understand the statement of being fit! Fitness is the ability to withstand daily rigors of physical activity and mental balance! Our body needs enormous amount of energy for doing physical and mental work. To supply this energy to every part of our body we need to exercise regularly burning the accumulated fats, lubricating the joints, giving them endurance to withstand ailments/diseases etc.,
Now two forms to it, either doing it from internally - Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation or doing it externally, Brisk walking, Aerobics, Working out in a gym, swimming, cycling etc.,,
Many of us, including me have accumulated fats due to the sedentary life style we are living! Be it sitting in front of the system for long hours, irregular eating habits or lack of proper sound sleep, or drinking insufficient water throughout the day to keep our hydration levels optimum.
Discipline is what determines us how to get rid of the unburnt fat and calories and sustaining it throughout!
For those of you who wish to hit the gym in this summer to reduce weight/ shape your physique here are a few guidelines.
I have learnt them over a period of more than a decade being a Power Lifter and a Gold Medal Winner at the Inter IIT Power Lifting Competition - IIT Madras! so rest assured folks!!
  • Understand that losing weight, gaining weight is not a one night miracle
  • Do not go and hit the gym and start lifting weights to become Matinee Idol on the first day
  • Warm up slowly, please understand that we need to accustom our body that it is going for a fitness regime
  • Also understand that you have accumulated fats and calories over a period of time, look at when you started putting on weight!
  • example if it took 5 years for you to put on weight, then understand that it will take atleast 6 months for your body to understand that it is on a weight loss program. During that time only the water content will keep drying out, you may feel fresh but the fat is still there to be burnt!! This is fact!
  • Once your body attains momentum then is the right time to go in for weights so that at this level the body comes into a shape - from Fat you will realize you are getting Fit!
This process should be continued for atleast 1 year for you to get used to hitting the gym, walking etc., so that even if you don't feel like exercising , your conscious will not accept you to skip a single day!!

Until then, keep drinking lots of water, eat regularly without skipping your breakfast, sleep adequately!!
Happy Health to all.. will continue on this..!!!
